Library Study Room Occupancy Detection
A need exists for a robust easy to implement product that will be able to correlate
presence of people or persons with the space that they are occupying without invading
their privacy. No efficient system existed for checking the occupancy of rooms or spaces.
The current method requires checking each room or space individually. If a system
existed that allowed checking of occupancy with less than the current effort, than an
implementation of such a system would be very desirable in any location where
information regarding space usage is in demand.
Library Study Room Occupancy Detection project offers a solution to correlating presence of people and the use of study rooms. Using a wireless sensor network, SensorTrak uses a combination of low powered wireless devices, motion detectors, and light detectors to discover which rooms in the Johns Hopkins MSE library are used by students. This project runs in real time and has been developed with the staff at the MSE Library. One can check the current implementation level of the project at rooms.mse.jhu.edu
